A bunch of flowers from our Hong Kong Orchid Tree. The wind blows them off by the handful, and I rescue them. They make me pretty happy.

Jools: Los Angeles, CA, United States; I'm Jill, or I'm Jools. I am mother to daughter Lucy, 13, and son Aidan, 17. My husband, Jeremy, and I met in college in Oregon in 1986 when he was a 17 year-old freshman, and I an older woman of 18. While we've bounced around a bit, figuratively and literally, I still consider "home" to be Lawrence, KS, where I was born & raised. We spend long hot summers here, and pray for snow every Christmas. Somehow, though, we seem to have truly settled a million miles from Kansas, in Los Angeles, which remains #2 in the list of US-Cities-in-Which-I-Cannot-Imagine-Living. Before Lucy arrived, I worked as a Chimp Keeper at the LA Zoo, and maybe some day I will get back into animal care, once I've had enough of the beasts in my own home. I am a self-taught artisan (perpetually in-training), a somewhat clumsy craftswoman with the very best of intentions. Where this blog will take me is anyone's guess. Please join me.
